A SPECIAL MOMENT

The Ritual Toast

At one point in the night, tiny pink cups filled with amber liquid appeared on trays. In fact, all at once, at an overwhelming pace for the bar staff - and included a “hands in the air if you’ve worked in hospo!” callout for helpers to distribute the trays of cups.

In the end, we all got a cup of magical liquid.

What was this liquid?

Glad you asked.

Here’s the story:

It’s mid-lockdown, my friend Elise from Madlore messaged me saying “I’ve created a drink based on your painting, The Vestibule - can I send you some in the post?”

If it hadn’t been lockdown times, she probably would have been able to bring it over - but we were all confined to our 5km bubble, so she packaged up some magical potions and popped them in the post for me.

A few days later, the mysterious package arrived.

I’m not sure how to describe the feeling of drinking your own painting.. of smooth velvety liqueur with the hint of pussy - ever so salty - and beautifully sweet, coating your lips and tongue.. at the same time as gazing into your own painting - of your own pussy, depicted as the feminine divine - as a symbolic representation of our collective sacredness and reclamation of the love of our own bodies.

Yeah - that was an experience.

Elise creates potions.

That’s, frankly, the only way to put it.

Spirits distilled with intention, spirits that create altered states filled with sacredness, rather than sloppiness - and of course I wanted everyone to have a taste of that experience.

So when the opportunity arose for Elise to create the bar for the exhibition, I jumped at the chance to create a collective ritual toast with the same drink.

Elise made a few limited edition bottles, too - they’re all gone now - but for those who were there, the experience was…

Transcendental.
